Global Community Health Annual Workshop

The Global Community Health Annual workshop provides a space where community health and health promotion practitioners and policy makers can improve their skills and where researchers can gain in capacities to conduct community-based participatory research.

Organisers are the UNESCO Chair Global Health & EducationEHESP School of Public Health, International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE)Réseau Francophone International Pour la Promotion de la Sante (RÉFIPS), University of Clermont Auvergne and University of Huddersfield.

Date

The fourth edition of the Global Community Health Annual Workshop will take place from 4 till 6 June 2024.

Theme

The main theme of this year’s workshop is ‘How can community health contribute to fighting poverty?’ The workshop will explore the root causes of poverty, and how poverty impacts community health. The value of community-based interventions – as a research method and also as a key health promotion strategy – should be recognised in this work. The workshop will be solution oriented. This year’s focus of capacity-building for the participants will be on ‘advocacy and activism’.

Format of the workshop

The global workshop will run during 3 days, 3,5 contact hours per day. To accommodate participants from all different time zones around the world, the workshop will be offered twice a day.

  • Block 1 will run from 10.00 – 13.30 Paris; 16.00 – 19.30 Beijing; 18.00 – 21.30 Melbourne.
  • Block 2 will run from 16.00 – 19.30 Paris; 7.00 – 10.30 Los Angeles; 11.00 – 14.30 Buenos Aires

The workshop uses an interactive format ensuring active participation through a series of online lectures, combined with community heath hubs (small working groups).

Community health hubs

The community health hubs acknowledge our diversity and cultural dimensions and are offered in different languages including Arabic, English, French, Spanish, and other languages depending on the availability of facilitators. During the community health hubs participants have the opportunity to share experiences, build their regional and global networks and work with other group members on their assignment.

We encourage participants to gather locally and organise their own local community health hubs. They can follow the central lectures online together and then continue their discussions live in the local community health hubs.

Registration

You can now register for the fourth edition of the Global Community Health Annual Workshop. Registration will close on Tuesday 28 May 2024, 16.00 CEST. Participating in the workshop is free of charge. For questions please send an email to info@unescochair-ghe.org.

Programme

We attach great importance to gender balance and Global South – Global North balance in our recruitment of speakers. They should reflect the very diverse and international audience that we seek to connect with.

Who can attend?

Participants are professionalspolicy makersresearchersstudents from different backgrounds. They can expand their knowledge and skills on community health while becoming part of an international network, which is an important benefit for the participants. They can get inspired by the diversity of researchers, practitioners and policy makers involved in advancing community health.

Language

The online lectures are held in English and French. We do not want language to be a barrier for participation. Therefore we are trying to organise simultaneous translation.

Participants can indicate their preferred language for the community health hubs. Based on the registrations and the availability of facilitators for the community health hubs, the organisers will organise these groups in different language groups.

Certificate of attendance and accreditation

After attending the lectures and contributing to the assignment, participants can request a certificate of attendance delivered by the UNESCO Chair. They can also request a certificate from IUHPE to accumulate credits toward registration/re-registration as a health promotion practitioner under the IUHPE Accreditation System.
