Studies have shown that school closures are harmful to child health and well-being and educational outcomes. Since the COVID-19 pandemic is unique concerning the extent of school closure, there is a crucial need for sharing information about the local and national strategies in different contexts. Depending on the socioeconomic context and the cultures of the countries, the concrete mechanisms of the reopening of schools differs. That\u2019s why the UNESCO Chair and WHO Collaborating Centre in Global Health and Education have launched a knowledge sharing process on school reopening.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Current research on school reopening<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p>In 2021 schools were still heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic therefore a follow-up survey was conducted with the support of consortium partners. The&nbsp;<strong>aim&nbsp;<\/strong>of the survey was to gather the experiences and opinions of education and health professionals about the processes in place in their countries and territories to reopen schools safely during the COVID-19 pandemic, and to keep them open. International organisations, national and local governments issued guidance on reopening at different times. The article takes stock of the available evidence on school health interventions and the conditions necessary for their effectiveness and sustainability.
